ARCHIVED - CODES-GUIDES Online Library

The CODES-GUIDES Online Library is an Internet-based service that provides access to the National Model Construction Codes documents in an electronic format. The electronic format allows for a number of useful features such as hyperlinks and instant search capability that are not possible with the paper format. Once you activate your subscriptions, the publications are available to you from any computer (PC) connected to the Internet, anywhere in the world.

IMPORTANT: Please be advised that the 2005 National Construction Codes and Guides CD-ROM has been discontinued. The following services are no longer available:

  1. the Web License Manager server for license generation, and
  2. the 2005 Codes-Guides CD-ROM Technical Support.

For a complimentary upgrade to an equivalent product, please call Client Services at 1-800-672-7990 or at 613-993-2463 (Ottawa-Gatineau and outside of Canada). You may also request information by e-mailing to IRCpubsales@nrc-cnrc.gc.ca.

System Requirements

Internet Access

You must have Internet access to register, activate and access the electronic publications.

Due to the size of the publications in the CODES-GUIDES Online Library, using a dial-up connection is not recommended.

Hardware

IMPORTANT: Due to font compatibility issues, the following electronic publications are temporarily not supported on Mac computers:

  • User’s Guide – NBC 2010 Structural Commentaries (Part 4 of Division B)

Please return to this page regularly for an update on the status of this issue.

Any recent PC desktop or laptop computer should be adequate for using the CODES-GUIDES Online Library: 1 GB RAM, 100 MB of free disk space, 2 GHz processor.

CODES-GUIDES Online Library publications are not compatible with handheld or tablet devices.

Software

Supported operating systems and Web browsers:

  • Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista, Windows 7:
    • Internet Explorer Version 7.0 or greater
    • Mozilla Firefox Version 3.6.10 or greater
  • Mac
    • Safari 5.0.2 or greater.

Javascript and cookies must be enabled.

IMPORTANT: Before you activate your publications, Adobe Acrobat or Reader and the FileOpen Plug-in must be installed on the computer onto which you download the CODES-GUIDES publications:

2005 and 2010 Codes and Guides

The 2005 and 2010 Codes and Guides are available as encrypted PDF files. Because the same files were used to prepare the printed Codes and Guides, the electronic documents preserve the same layout as the printed versions.
